National Foundation to Prevent Violence Against Women and Children

The Victorian and Commonwealth governments have launched a new Foundation to Prevent Violence Against Women and Children.

The Foundation will drive cultural and attitudinal chance to prevent violence against women and their children from the ground up through community engagement and advocacy.

It will address the need for a dedicated national body to have a singular focus on prevention, and drive sustained and long term effort through the delivery of activities to raise community awareness.

The establishment of the Foundation is an initiative under the National Plan to Reduce Violence against Women and their Children 2010-2022 (the National Plan) and complements the work of the National Centre of Excellence (NCE).

Following the launch, a national consultation process will commence. The Chair of the Foundation and the board are keen to engage with stakeholders across Australia to listen to and understand their views, ideas and proposals for prevention in Australia and the Foundation’s role.

The Victorian consultation workshops will be held on 9 August 2013.
