Royal Commission Forum

Last week the Centre and VCOSS jointly hosted a forum to help community organisations prepare for the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.

The key note presentation was delivered by the Honorable Justice Jennifer Coate (above), with other speakers including Peter Johnstone (St Vincent de Paul), Micaela Cronin (MacKillop), Kevin Zibell, Simon Gardiner and Caroline Carrol (Open Place), Nathan MacDonald (PilchConnect) and Jenny Hardy (National Association of Community Legal Centres).

The busy program delivered a vast quantity of valuable information on everything from the Commission's basic processes to organisational governance responsibilities, opportunities for CSOs to support past clients, processes for responsing to past complaints and basic legal advice.

The large group particularly appreciated the opportunity to engage with Justice Coate, who will soon commence regional hearings and consultations.
