Understanding and responding to young person violence in the home
This six-hour interactive workshop aims to support the development of foundation knowledge for professionals working with young person violence. It includes exploration of theoretical frameworks that underpin Young Person Violence in the Home (YPVITH), how to use a relational approach, assessment of risk, and practice examples.
The workshop explores a young person’s experience of trauma and how this may impact their use of violence in the home. It will also examine how professionals can support risk management through safety planning using a trauma-informed approach. The workshop addresses topics such as planning and using family-centred, strength-based and holistic approaches, supporting carers and families to be able to identify the early stages of the emergence of violence and violent behaviour in children and young people. Additionally, the training aims to work with practitioners to support them in looking at YPVITH and what may be consistent with typical adolescent behaviour.
